What is the process for measuring an old ceiling for custom aluminum panels when there are no blueprints?

Field measurement replaces the missing drawing set. A survey typically records overall room length, width, and height at multiple points, the spacing of any existing suspension grid, and the exact location of obstructions such as sprinkler heads, HVAC diffusers, and cable trays.

For venues with visibly sagging or uneven ceilings, measurements are taken at regular intervals across each span—commonly every 1.5–2 meters—rather than relying on corner-to-corner readings, since older structures can settle unevenly by 10–20 mm or more over decades. Photos are taken alongside each measurement to cross-check dimensions during the drafting stage.

Once collected, this data is converted into a scaled layout drawing showing panel module breakdown, cutting dimensions, and hanger point locations. This drawing serves the same production function as a CAD file, allowing panels to be CNC-cut to the same tolerance as a new-build project, typically finalized within 7–15 working days of survey completion.
