Many public venues built before the 2000s—gymnasiums, cinemas, train stations, factory-converted halls—have no surviving architectural files. This does not block a custom aluminum ceiling project; it only changes where the design process starts, replacing a CAD base with a field-measured base.
A survey team uses laser distance meters to record room dimensions, ceiling height variation across the span, existing grid spacing, and the position of beams, columns, ducts, and light fixtures. On uneven ceilings, points are typically measured every 1.5–2 meters rather than only at the corners, so deviations of 10–20 mm across a span can be caught and built into panel tolerance before cutting.
This field data is reconstructed into a working layout equivalent to a CAD file, from which panel dimensions, perforation patterns, and hanger positions are generated for CNC production. For old venues where the original suspension grid has settled unevenly, adjustable hangers are specified instead of fixed-length rods, correcting up to roughly 15–20 mm of vertical variation per point without visible sagging once installed.
